You can book a London Day Travelcard directly in Melon Rail. A Day Travelcard gives you unlimited travel across London public transport services including:

  • London Underground (Tube)

  • DLR

  • London Overground

  • Elizabeth line

  • London buses

Travelcards are available for different London travel zones, with Zone 1–2 and Zone 1–4 being the most common options.

Before You Start

There are a few important search settings required in order for the Travelcard option to appear correctly in Melon Rail.

  • You must search using Roundtrip

  • Your outbound and return dates must be the same day

  • Your destination must be a mainline station in Zone 4

  • We recommend using Barking Station (BKG) as the destination station

How to Book a London Day Travelcard

Step 1: Start a New Rail Search

From your Melon homepage:

  1. Select the TRAINS tab

  2. Choose Roundtrip

  3. Enter your journey details

The standard Melon Rail booking flow is accessed through the Trains option on the landing page.

Step 2: Enter Your Search Criteria

Use the following setup when searching:

Field

What to Enter

Origin

Select London

Destination

Select Barking (BKG) or another Zone 4 mainline station

Departure Date

The date you want the Travelcard active

Return Date

Must be the same as departure date

Why Barking?

The destination must be a valid National Rail station within Zone 4 for the Travelcard fares to appear correctly in search results, so using Barking just helps make it easier to memorise for regular use!

Step 3: Search for Trains

Click Search to view available rail options.

You’ll see outbound and inbound rail options along with available ticket types.

Step 4: Select the Correct Ticket Type

When reviewing fares:

  • Select the Anytime Day Travelcard option from the available ticket types

  • The actual train selected is less important, as the Travelcard is valid all day

  • Any inbound option can be selected

  • The selection may appear highlighted in red

  • This is expected behaviour and enables the Go to checkout option

Your Travelcard allows unlimited travel across permitted London transport services on the selected day.

Step 5: Complete Checkout

Once both outbound and inbound selections have been made:

  1. Click Go to checkout

  2. Review your booking

  3. Complete the reservation as normal

Your Booking Overview will confirm the selected Travelcard before final confirmation.

Good to Know

Zone Coverage

At the time of writing (May 2026), the price of an Anytime Day Travelcard for Zone 1 is the same as a Zone 1–4 card, which can offer greater flexibility if your plans change during the day.

Travelcard Usage

Once purchased, you can travel freely across included London transport services throughout the day shown on your ticket.
